It's curious, but fitting that my next bit of waffle following the one about Paradis, should be about London trio, Real Lies. Both inhabit similar places for me, those non-moments between the moments.
Real Lies aren't the euphoric hit at the rave, they're the bit afterwards, stood on your own by the dual carriageway with a flat phone battery wondering if you should chance a snide taxi or just start walking. They're the seemingly trivial decisions that build to send you in a specific life trajectory, rather than what feel like the big life choices. Saturday morning afters shop-run or time to go home?
They've recently pulled together a Spotify playlist of tracks that they've been listening to while writing new material. It includes their latest single The Checks. I'll spare the lazy comparisons, but needless to say, the references within are all personal life-long favourites.
See you in Dalston on the 15th June?
